Recentemente, depois de 27 meses de guerra, foi finalmente possível celebrar novamente uma Missa em Cartum. Para a pequena comunidade cristã que permanece na capital sudanesa, este momento teve um significado muito profundo: o regresso da vida sacramental e a possibilidade de se confessar. Uma confissão que, segundo ele, <strong><em>\u201cajuda a virar a página do sofrimento para passar à reconstrução\u201d</em></strong>.<br>

Este missionário sublinhou, contudo, que não são apenas as almas que precisam de ser reconstruídas em Cartum. Muitas escolas perderam alunos e professores por causa da guerra. E agora que alguns professores regressaram, precisam de se reorganizar. <strong><em>\u201cMuitos professores e as suas famílias tiveram de se deslocar de um lugar para outro. Alguns fugiram para o Sudão do Sul. Alguns professores foram mortos. Um deles foi capturado e torturado. É uma história trágica. Ia casar-se, podia ter-se tornado director de escola, mas, em vez disso, teve uma morte lenta\u201d</em></strong>, lamenta o Padre Diego.<br type="_moz"></p>

O Padre Diego contou-nos ainda a história de coragem de uma professora viúva que permaneceu em Cartum para cuidar da mãe idosa. Um grupo armado das Forças de Apoio Rápido queria roubar-lhe o carro e aparecia constantemente em sua casa. Um dia ameaçaram matá-la. Ela respondeu apenas: <strong><em>\u201cMuito bem, façam o que têm de fazer, mas lembrem-se: quem vive pela espada morrerá pela espada.\u201d</em></strong> Eles assustaram-se e perguntaram-lhe o que aquilo queria dizer. Ela explicou: <strong><em>\u201cIsto vem no Evangelho, não sabem?\u201d</em></strong> E eles fugiram. No dia seguinte, voltaram para lhe pedir perdão.<br type="_moz"></p>
